2010? Since when?

This week I'm putting the finishing touches on the East Midlands Regional 2010 annual plan. Yes, contain your excitement!

Plans include regional events, training events, come sings and exciting website developments.

The new website should also be ready by the end of the week - just making sure that we're corporately compliant.

A meeting with Neil Bennison (Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham) and Angela Kay (Nottingham Choral Trust or now Singing for Everyone) on Wednesday to discuss plans for the future following on from our Sing with the Halle event in June.

A visit to North Nottinghamshire Chamber Choir tomorrow evening......

Looking forward to getting stuck into the work.

Websites and Events

A busy time as we get back into the swing after the summer.

The past few days have been spent liaising with our webdesigner to ensure that the new website is almost ready for public viewing. I've written new content and been creating an interactive map of music groups in the East Midlands.

If you were able to email me the name of your music group and the postcode of where you're based (i.e. your rehearsal spot) then I'll add you too. It would be ideal if this were a regional resource that all music makers could make use of when looking for a group to join.

I've also been organising a number of events and training opportunities for music groups in the East Midlands. The first is a two-part training - an Introduction to Sponsorship for music organisations to be held in Leicester on 23rd and 30th November from 5pm - 8pm at Voluntary Action Leicester. We're asked Arts & Business to run this event and it's a very reasonable cost of £25 for members of Making Music (£50 for non-members).

We've also teamed up with MusicLeader East Midlands to offer places on the Fundraising for your Music Project which will be held on 11th November in Northampton. There are 6 places for members of making music for a discounted price. The first six booking to come through me will have a place for FREE - after that it's £15 for members and £25 for non-members. The usual price is £50 per person.

And so this week I'm focusing on finishing the regional plan for 2010 and of course its accompanying budget; meeting with our group of project volunteers to get finishing the sample directory of vocal groups and hopefully that's about it folks!

Summers Gone

It was great to see so many of you music makers and shakers at the annual conference in Leeds. There was a great choice of workshops to choose from and some very interesting speakers. Do let me know if you'd like further information if you were unable to attend.

Following on from the conference I'm back in Leicester after a few sneaky days in Belgium last week. A cycle trip that included Brugges, Antwerp, Leuven, ScherpenHeuvel and Ieper. Wonderful but sad to detect that chill in the breeze that suggests summer now needs to be packed away until next May.

This week I'm based at home organising meetings for the coming weeks. The finishing touches are being put to the new East Midlands Making Music website and I'm in the throws of organising a couple of regional events which include a training session about sponsorship for music groups, fundraising for your arts project and a get together in Lincoln in October.

I've been contacted by a member group from the Rutland area and we're planning to bring together members in the area to inform you about what Making Music can do for you in the region. More info. to follow.

The above and thinking about the plans for 2010! eeek where did 2009 go? It's not over yet!!

Luddite Initiates Regional Blog

Incredible. The whole world appear to be blogging these days and although it bemuses me slightly as to where blog readers find the time to absorb such copious detail of life's grievances and pleasures I thought it might be fun to sketch a very informal picture of what I get up to here in the East Midlands on behalf of the Making Music establishment.

You may or may not know that I'm employed by Making Music for 3 days each week to carry out work that develops Making Music and the life of it's members in the East Midlands. I therefore cover the five counties: Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire. Quite a broad aread and as diverse as it is extensive.

I often wonder how 3 days are consumed so I'll attempt to give you a clue.

Today I'm dealing with bookings for our upcoming St.Valentines Day singing extravaganza. Nigel Perrin is coming all the way from the South West to deliver a one-day singing event aimed at choral singers.

I'm also planning my 2009 visiting strategy - the aim is to get out and about and meet more members in the region. So watch out! I may be popping up on your doorstep soon.

I've also been ordering some marketing and promotional goods this afternoon so I'm overfed with ideas about pretty post-its, eco-pencils and organic drawstring bags. I settled for some T-shirts and wooden pencils.

Just about to finalise some of our project plans for the coming year and then I might dash out in the snow for a celebratory pint.
